Level III History of Wine: Ancient World (to 500 AD)

 

A Level III Certification Course

Wine in the ancient world was a critical part of the economy and recognized as a major “civilizing” influence.

This is a required course for the Level III Certification. If you would like to take a detailed, technical course on the Ancient World of Wine you can take this course without being a Level III student. However, we strongly recommend that you first take the Guild Certification Seminar before attempting a Level III course.

You may be enrolled in our Level II Certification and concurrently take Level III courses.

This course covers the following cultures in the Ancient World:

• Early Central Asia
• Mesopotamia, Canaan, Egypt to 1500 BC
• Antanolia and Central Asia, Phoenicia, Egypt - New Kingdom
• Greece
• Eurasia and Asia
• Rome and the Roman Empire

You will also learn about:

• What people drink in the ancient world – the beverage revolutions to 500 AD
• Grape and human interaction – a history of grape development
• “Sophisticated” wines of the Ancient World
• Wine and cuisine of the ancient world
• The impact of wine on the know world economy
• You will receive more than 400 pages of material, specifically designed for this course and taste about 40 wines
• You will receive the Guild History of the Ancient World time line chart

This course includes a period wine dinner on the last day of class.

This course is available in two formats:

• As a 12-week course, meeting once a week
• As a 1-week intensive study course, meeting daily

The 12-week course meets from 6:00PM to 10:00PM once a week for a total of 48 contact hours. Course tuition and fees are $1900. Cost of the course includes registration fees, handouts, wine, period wine dinner and instruction.

The 1-week intensive study course meets from 8:00AM to 5:30PM daily, Monday through Friday, for a total of 48 contact hours. Course tuition and fees are $1975. Cost of the course includes registration fees, handouts, wine, lunch each day, period wine dinner and instruction. There is no difference in course content and instruction between the 11-week and 1-week courses.

Schedule of 1 Week Intensive Study History of Wine: Ancient World Courses

If for any reason a class is canceled we will phone or e-mail you 48 hours prior to the start of the class. If a class is canceled at the last minute due to bad weather (this is very rare) we will reschedule the class. However, if a class is held and you decide not to attend because you believe the weather is bad than it will be treated as a no-show. It is highly recommended that you register early, your credit card will not be charged until seven days in advance of the course. We must have a minimum students registered in order to form a course. If you are traveling from out of town to attend, please do not make arrangements until two weeks in advance of the course.
